There was a time when the event might no longer occur. James took over the role of "Lead Coordinator" and became leader of the Long Beach Firefighter's team in 2016. Since then he has worked tirelessly to coordinate, promote and organize many volunteers to shave their heads and fundraise for childhood cancer research. In 2019, the 17yr of Long Beach Shaves for Kids. Long Beach raised over $77,000, 6th highest earning in California.
Long Beach, in it's 18th year, has raised over $870,000 and shaved over 2,457 heads. James has shown the true Heart of a Hero to the families and their children suffering from cancer.
